There is currently no scheduled skill share workshops until further notice.

However, be a part of the team that brings WMTC productions to life! No matter your experience or availability we would love to have you involved.

The WMTC Costumiers meet every Tuesday evening from 7.30pm to 10.30pm throughout a production rehearsal period for an evening or weekend sewing session and catch up, or (if it better suits your lifestyle) you can assist from home.

We are always keen to hear from people with specialist experience in costume design, construction, pattern making and millinery.

Whimsical Waistcoats – Creating a costume Vest

Glenn Membry
Saturday 25^th August 2018: 12.30pm-3.30p

Come and join the waistcoat wizard, Glenn Membrey, and learn how to construct a simple vest.

Glenn will guide you through techniques including both double and single breasted, full lining, and welt pocket construction.

Participants will get to apply their skills creating a full costume waistcoat for WMTCs upcoming production Side Show.

All materials supplied, make sure your chalk is sharp, and your wit even sharper…..

Tulle and Jewels – Techniques for Costume Embellishment

Katrina Stanley
Sunday 9th Sept 2018 – 9.30am to 12.30p

Costumier Katrina Stanley specialises in couture for performance, Katrina has mastered the art of working with tulle and of stoning her garments with literally thousands of crystals and would love to share this technique with other costume lovers.

Her skill share session will include:

An introduction to working with non-hot fix crystals
Gathering tulle to create skirts and ruffles
An overview of the equipment required
Tips and tricks for achieving best results
Some examples of her own work

Participants will learn the basics and get to apply their new skills embellishing real costume pieces for WMTCs upcoming production Side Show.

Shape and Texture: knitting and crochet for costume

Laura Houlden
Sunday 23rd July 2017 – 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Cost: $5.00 to cover the cost of materials
Where: Williamstown Mechanics Institute Theatre

In this workshop Laura will teach you how to wield the tools to conquer knitted and crochet fabrics. You will learn how to connect constructed fabrics, add embellishments, create form and shape using knit and crochet techniques. The session will introduce:

- Embellishments for existing fabrics
- Creating form and texture

Creative Costume with Mouldable Plastic

Chi Cheung
Saturday 5th August 2017 – 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Cost: $5.00 to cover the cost of materials
Where: Williamstown Mechanics Institute Theatre

Come and have some fun, learn from Chi who will show you how to create useful and unique items with Mouldable Plastic! It’s easy to use, just soften with hot water and mould with your hands. From costume, craft, cosplay, DIY, fixing things, you are only limited to what you can imagine!!

This session will involve;
- Introduction to Mouldable Plastic and how to use it
- Examples of the projects you can create with Mouldable Plastic
- Tips, tricks and tools to working with Mouldable
- Making your very own creation!!

Embellishment for Costume: crystal and feather work

Katrina Stanley invites you into her world of embellishment for costume. Specialising in couture for performance, Katrina has mastered the art of stoning her garments with literally thousands of Swarovski Crystals and would love to share this technique with other costume lovers.

Her skill share session will involve:
- An introduction to working with non-hot fix crystals
- An introduction to applying feathers to garments
- An overview of the equipment required
- Tips and tricks for achieving best results
- Some examples of her own work

Participants should be able to walk away with something sparkly of their very own.
